Scope of work will include rebuild of several major highways. The Florida Department of Transportation awarded the $802M contract to a private design team, with a requirement to complete the project by October 2022.
The project includes double-decking of a portion of the 836 expressway and a re-design of the interchange with I-95 & I-395. The highways running through downtown Miami will be elevated and new public spaces and parks will be built underneath.

The developers of the 100-story Waldorf Astoria Miami supertall have released new details of the project, and have launched sales. According to developer PMG, the building will become “an architectural wonder.”
In a statement, architect Carlos Ott said the tower will be a “distinguished sculpture that would permanently alter Miami’s skyline with height and design never seen before.”
The tower will be comprised of nine spiraling offset cubes which Ott says will distinguish it from anything on the East Coast.
The developer also said it will be the tallest residential building south of New York City, at 1,049 feet above sea level. Miami’s current tallest building of any type is the 85-story, 868-foot Panorama Tower.
The Waldorf will include 360 private residential condo units, as well as 205 hotel rooms and suites. Sieger Suarez is the architect of record. Interior design is by California’s BAMO.
Prices start at $1 million.
Souce: The Next Miami
Miami Dolphins team members will soon train closer to where they play home games.
The Miami-Dade County Commission on Tuesday approved a resolution to amend its existing stadium deal with the Miami Dolphins that will provide additional subsidy to build a new training facility next to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
The resolution, sponsored by District 1 Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan, will increase the subsidies by $750,000 per year upon completion of a new practice facility and extend the length of the agreement based on the total price tag of the new facility, which would cost at least $50 million to build. The subsidies would be funded entirely by the county’s tourist tax. The training facility will be privately funded and expected to be completed by 2020.
Under a separate agreement Miami Gardens will provide the team an additional $500,000 to offset its higher property-tax bill once the facility is built, a statement said.
The current stadium deal provides the Dolphin’s organization a maximum of $5 million in subsidies for bringing marquee events to the stadium. In the past years, several big-ticket events were hosted at Dolphin Stadium, including the 2016 Orange Bowl and the 2017 sold-out international soccer match between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, known as “El Clásico.”
As of today, Dolphins owner, Stephen Ross, has spent more than $500 million renovating the stadium. The Dolphins have outgrown their current training facility located at Nova Southeastern University in Davie. The organization considered expanding in Davie, as well as moving to Miramar, before closing in on the city of Miami Gardens.
The project is expected to bring more than 100 jobs to Miami-Dade County and generate economic development opportunities for the area, explained Jordan.
“I am so excited to bring the Miami Dolphins football headquarters and practice facility back to North Dade where it belongs,” she said.
The highlight of the project is the bridge design called the “Fountain,” which includes six sweeping arches that FDOT says will redefine Miami’s skyline.
Miami’s first double-deck highway will also be built on State Road 836, from NW 17th Avenue past the I-95 Interchange.
Underneath the bridge, a 55-acre park called Heritage Trail will be created, with the bridge itself to be elevated to allow in more sunlight.
Other improvements include an additional lane on 836. The 836 eastbound ramp to I-95 north, which has been a traffic choke point for decades, will finally be getting another lane.
Archer Western-de Moya Joint Venture is the contractor.
The project will take four years to complete, according to FDOT spokesperson Tish Burgher. An updated schedule is not yet available.
